Tonight at 10 PM EST,VH1 is checking into rehab!TV critics and blogs alike have panned it as being "exploitive trash TV" but isn't that pretty much what the reality TV genre is all about?Celebrities including Daniel Baldwin,Jeff Conaway,Chyna & Brigitte Nielsen will attempt to detox with the help of the famous "Dr.Drew" for all of the world to see.Most of the cast has already appeared at one time or another on VH1 reality shows,like "Celebrity Fit Club" and "The Surreal Life" and it was quite apparent then they had issues with chemical dependency.Chyna,aka Joanie Laurer,a former WWE Womens Wrestling Champion,not surprisingly has an addiction to pain pills,perhaps incubated during regular use in her wrestling days when she sustained many injuries.Most interestingly,porn star Mary Carey,who unsuccessfully ran for governor of California during the 2003 recall,arrives at rehab with a bag of sex toys!The sneak previews I have seen promise lots of personal drama,and fighting amongst cast members.Another rehab cast member,former child star Jaimee Foxworth (Family Matters) may be the one person who probably doesn't need rehab,as previews show her claiming that her particular addiction is that "she smokes pot every hour of every day".That is more of a bad habit than a life-altering addiction and I have to quote Bob Saget from his cameo in the movie "Half-Baked"-when Dave Chappelles character stands up at a Narcotics Anonymous Meeting and announces he is addicted to marijuana,the crowd boos him and asks"is that ALL"?Bob Sagets character stands up and yells"Hey,I have sucked d*ck for coke man-thats an addiction-have you ever sucked d*ck for pot?" LOL.Neverthless I have to commend her for doing something about it if she is not happy with her life.
Than again,part of me wonders,are they REALLY seeking help or another 15 minutes of fame?Only time will tell.I will be one of the many people tuning in tonight to found out!
