You say tomato, they say no way!

I am still shaking my head in disbelief after reading about the Hillsborough subdivision residents in Belle Haven,on Virginias Eastern Shore, and their petty complaints against a Florida based tomato grower whose field is adjacent to their beloved little enclave.Wasn't the tomato field already there in place BEFORE they built their homes?Did they not notice when they moved to the area that it IS a rural community with an agriculture-driven economy? The residents say East Coast Brokers & Packers failed to plant cover crops early enough and as a result, dirt is blowing onto their property and sullying their cars and homes!OMG!Call out the National Guard! The tomato growers were unable to plant cover crops earlier than they did because of a statewide burning ban, related to high winds and dry conditions so maybe Hillsborough residents figured they could not sue God for the dry weather so they will go after East Coast.Where do these folks think tomatoes and other produce come from?????I understand that they are upset about the minimal damage done to their homes but East Coast cannot control wind or tides. The Homeowners Association President has suggested a class action lawsuit to prevent them from growing tomatoes on the field in the future, despite the fact that the ESVA is LOADED with tomato fields and has been for years.Whats next?People are quick to complain about their farming neighbors, especially chicken growers and they fail to realize that agriculture and farming puts food on THEIR tables.Maybe a big corporation like East Coast can afford the frivolous lawsuits, but what about the little guys-the local family farmers?A successful lawsuit against East Coast could set a precedent that further endangers independent farm families on Delmarva. If you do not like the smell of chicken sh*t or the mess of dust, there is a simple solution-don't live in the country. You can't have it both ways!If you want the peaceful quiet country lifestyle, you cannot expect the rest of the community to buckle to your wants and needs.I am sorry if I sound a little harsh, but its time that someone took a stand.Where would the Eastern Shore be without agriculture?
