40 Years ago today......

40 years ago today, one of the original "old school" Rock and R&B singers,Otis Redding, was killed, along with 4 members of his backup band, the Bar-Kays,when their plane crashed into Lake Monona in Wisconsin.Redding was a mere 26 years old and had just recorded his best known song,"Sitting on the Dock of the Bay",3 days earlier. It was released posthumously and stayed at Number 1 on the charts for 4 consecutive weeks. He was one of many music legends(including James Brown,Little Richard & The Allman Brothers Band)to come out of Macon,Georgia and before his untimely death had electrified the audience at 1967's Monterey Pop Festival.Ironically,a little known band by the name of "Grim Reaper" was set to open for him at his last concert on the tour,a band that later changed its name to Cheap Trick!Todays R&B singers dont even come close to the magic that was Otis Redding! His music will live on forever.....
