They're cops,not gardeners.....

A couple in Fort Collins,Colorado are incensed after the 39 marijuana plants seized from their home in August 2006 were returned to them this week, dead.
Their lawyer,Brian Vincente, says that the plants were "medical marijuana" but Jim & Lisa Masters did not have the appropriate documentation to present to the police when they were raided, thus the plants were confiscated. The charges against them were dropped in June of this year. They claim that they used the marijuana themselves and also distributed it to several patients who were licensed to use it for medicinal purposes. They estimated that the seized, now dead, plants were worth $100,000 and are threatening to sue the police department.I am still shaking my head over this one, folks. If individual states are going to skirt federal law and allow medical marijuana, then maybe the states themselves need to start supplying it,and set up something similar to a liquor control board to regulate it.As long as they keep it illegal & allow individuals to cultivate and distribute it,they have no way of insuring that it is strictly limited to those who are medically entitled to possess and use it.My poor late Mother was told"off the record" by her doctor that she could benefit from it,as her rare form of intestinal cancer had obliterated her appetite and she was literally wasting away, but there is no legal avenue in Maryland to obtain medicinal marijuana and my mother, being the person she was, would be loathe to do anything illegal so she never had the chance to try it,and as long as people in more liberal states like the Masters abuse the system, other states will not even consider similar statutes.
As far as the Masters go,although the charges were dropped,I suspect that they were selling it pretty much to anyone who had the cash or else they would have had proper documentation,so I do not think their lawsuit has merit. They abused the privelidge by not doing it all legally and properly.Than again its pretty much a harmless substance unlike those sold legally, like booze and cigarettes! What do y'all think?

Tax it, decriminalize it, and put some money in the coffers with it. Just like in the 1920's before the gas, textile, and paper industry banded together to get rid of it.

I agree with you-its not even one-tenth as harmful as booze, which is sold practically everywhere and has destroyed numerous lives. Can you imagine the revenue that would roll in?And it would put the criminal element out of business overnight....but I dont see it happening in my lifetime.

I said it before and I will say it again, if alcohol was discovered this year, it would be illegal from the start.

Alcohol is what old timers used to call"hell-water".I am speaking from the point of view of someone who has personally witnessed the detrimental effects alcohol abuse has on a person, and not just them but their families as well.

I have always thought that pot should be legalized and run by the government. Bet the farmers would become more rich. But just look at tobbaco.. they are taxing the hell out it now trying to get people to quit. Some even call for it to be illegal.
I really hope these people do sue the cops, just to see what the outcome is. I hope they win.

Penguins are not much better this season. And yes, I know the Caps suck but they are my team.
You must be real disapointed in the Penguins with the talent they have... may not make the playoffs.
So yes GO CAPS!!
