Religious freedom or a license to break the laws of man?

This evening I watched an interesting documentary on A&E called "Mind Control",which focused on a handful of bizarre religious cults that not only exist,but flourish in our country unchecked because of their "rights to religious freedom".These groups coerce their "believers" into abandoning their families and severing all ties with their former lives and very often put them into servitude while the so-called leaders live like kings.The various polygamist cults have always bugged me to no end because these men will keep several wives,impregnating them all and they survive by basically committing welfare fraud,thus they are supported financially by the very system they denounce.
The scariest of them featured on this show was the "House of Yahweh",a sect that shares some of the same tenets as Judaism that is based in Texas and led by Yisrayl Hawkins(born Buffalo Bill Hawkins).All members must change their last name to Hawkins and they live in a compound not far from Waco.Girls as young as 12 are considered fair game for "marriage"!They have a distrust of the outside world and do not believe in doctors,and tragically a 7 year old girl died in October 2006 when her mother attempted to operate on her at home!
I am all for religious freedom but these cult children have no freedom to choose how they live or die and that is simply wrong.Another child,an infant child of sect members,died in July 2006 due to malnourishment and asphyxiation and NO CHARGES WERE EVER FILED!
Im sorry but I do not think this is what our forefathers had in mind when they drafted the Constitution & a select group of people should not be given carte blanche to commit such crimes as sexual abuse,child neglect and whatever else in the name of religious freedom.
Ironically,while most of the church members live in virtual poverty,housed in run down mobile homes on church property,the leader himself has his choice of 3 palatial homes to live in.Former members report that anytime they questioned anything,they were deemed cursed and evil.Evil is letting your child die in front of you-evil is having sex with your 8 year old daughter,as one elder did,because you are "betrothed".Nobody wants to see another Waco disaster but when do we draw the line and step in and protect the innocent,the children?Enough is enough.Religious freedom does not circumvent common decency and the laws of man,laws designed to protect those who cannot defend themselves.
